Anniversary Cake One YearOne year after his election, Barack Obama is just above the threshold of 50% in favor. But the president retains his image as a reformer.

The fresco at the effigy of Obama is still there, in the heart of a neighborhood of Brooklyn. It is a daily reminder to people the historic significance of their vote, November 4, 2008. A year later, the “Obamania” that led to the election of the first black president in the history of the United States, shows signs of slowing, but resist the crisis. While the popularity of Barack Obama was still nearly 70% approval rating after his inauguration, it is now 54%, according to a recent survey conducted by CNN.

Economic difficulties and the controversial reform of the health system, priority of the White House, are armwrestling the popularity of the president.

The Obama government has addressed many problems since its start January 20th, 2009. Yesterday, the Senate began considering a bill to limit emissions of greenhouse gas emissions, a move unthinkable even a year ago with George Bush. And while the right accuses the U.S. president to have only nice words, left experts welcomed its action.

Barack Obama has another advantage in the current situation: the Republican opposition is still seeking for a vision, a year after his election defeat last year. It oscillates between a centrist conservative and policies more of the right. A hesitation that gives a little more time to the White House to promote its policies.
